Vero
Bass
Vero was born Nick Vero Chandler. Describing himself as a 'true genre whore', Vero brings a spectrum of influence and inspiration to Core Project that is unmatched by his bandmates. Although his musical training began learning the violin and drums, it was rap and hip-hop that first caught Vero's attention. Sophisticated acts such as Cypress Hill and House Of Pain sparked Vero's interest in making modern music, and this developed into a love of genre-crossing music when he began listeing to crossover bands such as Senser, RATM, 311 and RHCP. In particular, Vero has said that Senser have remained unheralded pinoeers in the cross-over genre between hip-hop, metal and electronica, especially in the UK music scene. It is Senser, who are frequently catgorised as 'uncategorisable', that caused Vero to say "(Senser) taught me to respect and seek the best in almost every genre of music."
It was at this point that Vero started playing to play more contemporary instruments, and began to become open to heavier, metallic sounds. Vero lists Feeder, Polythene, Placebo, Blur and Incubus as important influences to him. At the age of 14 he turned his attention to the bass guitar, and grew into heavier tastes, beginning to favour acts such as Soundgarden, Pantera, Snot and Tool. It was also at the this time that Vero formed funky rock outfit The By-Products. Vero also played in Flatline and acclaimed West Of England band A Consequence Lost, who made the Bath Battle of the Bands final twice, before joining Core Project.
Vero has very few musical prejudices, but sticks two fingers up at soft "Indie" pop-rock and commercial R n' B. Long may it continue.
